Pagoda-Style Rice Paper Lamp
Japanese “shoji” screens are considered by many to be the pinnacle of washi (the craft of papermaking) as applied art. Shoji was developed as a means to protect interior spaces from the harsh rays of direct sunlight while still providing adequate light to the interior. The extensive use of shoji screens in Japanese homes led many westerners to refer to the dwellings as “paper houses”. The delicate diffusion of light achieved by shoji screens is the inspiration for our rice paper lamps.
