| | Contemporary Henna Lamp (Morocco)
The art of henna tattooing, or Mendhi, is an old tradition used generally for celebrating events or marking rituals. The art of applying henna to skins serving as the shades for lamps on iron frames, as an artwork, is a relatively new tradition, but has been perfected by the skilled artisans of Morocco.
Select one of 3 contemporary styles. Style A is stained with orange and red natural dyes and features a cylindrical shape. Style B features red natural dye and a blimp-like shape, a take on many of the Vietnamese-style silk lamps. Style C takes on more of a shield-like shape, incorporating red natural dye and a punched iron piece, and sprouts out from a square iron base.
